Terms of use
The rules for using this site, the API, and the launcher.
Last updated 16 August 2026
The short version
- It is free, it is provided as-is, and it can break or go away.
- Do not claim a server you do not run.
- Your listing is yours to write and yours to answer for.
- We do not host mods. Your Steam client downloads them from the Workshop, under Steam's terms.
- We are not Bohemia Interactive and not Valve, and this is not an official DayZ product.
What you are agreeing to
By using this website, the public server API, or the HOD DayZ Launcher, you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use them — no account or sign-in is required to make that choice, because browsing and the launcher work without one.
"We" and "HOD" mean House of D, the DayZ community that builds and runs all three.
Not an official DayZ product
House of D is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Bohemia Interactive or Valve Corporation. DayZ, Steam and their logos belong to their owners. This is a community tool that talks to public services those companies provide.
Nothing here changes your obligations under the Steam Subscriber Agreement, the Steam Workshop terms, or DayZ's own rules. Where they conflict with anything on this page, theirs win.
The launcher
Free to download and use for playing DayZ. You may not sell it, rebrand it, or distribute a modified build under the House of D name.
What it does, and what it deliberately does not
- It never asks for your Steam password and never uses SteamCMD with your account.
- It never hosts or redistributes mods. It asks your own Steam client to subscribe to Workshop items, and Steam does the downloading.
- It never injects into the game or patches game files. DayZ is started through Bohemia's own launcher executables, unmodified, so BattlEye and Steam authentication are untouched.
- It links mods into a private staging folder using junctions, and it will not delete anything through one. Real folders in your DayZ directory are left alone.
Those are design commitments, not marketing, and they are the reason the launcher can be trusted with a game that has an anti-cheat. If a future version needs to break one of them, it will say so loudly rather than quietly.
Your account is your responsibility
You are responsible for your Steam account and for what happens on the servers you join. Using this launcher does not exempt you from a server's rules, DayZ's rules, or Steam's.
Updates
The launcher checks for updates and can install them. Keeping it up to date is how security fixes reach you; running an old build is at your own risk.
The website and the API
The public endpoints under /api are open, and you are welcome to build against them — a fan site, a Discord bot, your own tooling. Two things we ask:
- Be reasonable about volume. The data behind it refreshes every few minutes, so polling faster than that gets you the same answer and costs us the bandwidth. We may rate limit or block traffic that is hammering it.
- Do not present it as official DayZ data. It is a cache of Valve's public list plus what server operators have written about themselves.
The API may change shape. We will avoid breaking it needlessly, but it carries no stability promise and nothing here is a service level agreement.
Do not attempt to break into, overload, or probe this site for vulnerabilities without asking first. If you find one, tell us at houseofdgames@gmail.com — that is a welcome email, not a hostile one.
Claiming a server
A claim is proved by putting a one-time token into the server's name and letting us read it back off the wire. That proves one thing: you can change what the server broadcasts. It does not prove you own the box or the community, and we treat it as exactly what it is — whoever controls the server's configuration controls the listing.
- Do not claim a server you do not run. Doing so, or attempting to, gets the claim reversed and the account blocked from claiming again.
- If control of a server genuinely changes hands, email us. We can release a listing so the new operator can claim it.
- Where two people dispute a server, we go by the claim history and, failing that, by who currently controls the server name. If it cannot be resolved, we may release the listing so neither party holds it.
What you publish in a listing
Your description, banner, links and tags are published to this site and inside the launcher, to everyone. You are responsible for that content and you confirm you have the right to use it, artwork included.
Listings must not contain:
- anything illegal, or anything that facilitates it;
- harassment, threats, or targeting of a person or group — including in a server name;
- sexual content involving minors, in any form. This ends the account, permanently and without discussion.
- malware, phishing, or links pretending to be something they are not;
- impersonation of another community, or of House of D;
- anything that pretends to be an official Bohemia Interactive or Valve communication.
We may edit or remove a listing, release a claim, or block an account that breaks these rules. For anything short of the third item above, we will normally tell you why and give you the chance to fix it. Servers themselves keep appearing in the public list either way — the list comes from Valve, and removing a listing removes the operator's description, not the server.
Featured and sponsored placement
Some servers appear in a highlighted slot. Those rows are always labelled — "Sponsored" or "HOD" — and never disguised as ordinary results. Sort order and player counts are never altered to favour them.
Placement is currently granted by HOD, not sold. If that changes, this section changes with it and will set out price, duration and refund terms before anybody is asked for money.
Other people's servers
A server appearing in the list is not a recommendation, an endorsement, or a statement that it is well run. We do not operate other people's servers, we cannot moderate them, and we have no say in their bans, their rules, or their donations. Disputes with an operator are between you and the operator.
Availability
This is a community project, run on hardware a community pays for. It can go down, change, or stop. Features may be removed. We will not delete listings for the fun of it, but nothing here is guaranteed to exist tomorrow and you should not build something you depend on for money on top of it without talking to us first.
We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms or attacks the service. You can stop at any time: sign out, uninstall, done — and see the privacy page for getting your data deleted.
No warranty, and limits on liability
The site, the API and the launcher are provided as-is and as-available, with no warranty of any kind — not of accuracy, not of uptime, not of fitness for anything in particular. Server information can be stale or wrong; it comes from Valve and from the servers themselves.
To the fullest extent the law allows, House of D is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of any of it: lost game time, lost progress, a server that turned out not to be what its listing said, or a mod that broke your install. Nothing in these terms limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page. The date at the top says when it last changed. Continuing to use the site or the launcher after a change means you accept the new version; if you do not, stop using them and ask us to delete your data.
